Artist Development

Identifying Australia’s brightest talent

The Song Company is Australia’s most experienced professional vocal ensemble, led by world-leading creative artists who foster the careers of the nation’s most exciting performers.

The Apprentice and Ensemble Artist programs address the lack of development and professional performance opportunities for young and emerging Australian vocal artists, and enrich Australia’s future cultural landscape.

When you support the SongCo Apprentices and Ensemble Artists, you are playing an integral part in building the careers and performance opportunities for the next generation of emerging singers.

Make a donation here or contact Francis Greep to discuss your support for these programs in more details.

If you are a singer who is interested in joining the Apprentice Program, contact General Manager & Associate Artistic Director Francis Greep.

New in 2022, the SongCo Apprentices sees emerging talent from around the country being mentored by the nation’s leading professional ensemble in intensive workshops, rehearsals and performances.
Apprentices work alongside and learn from the company’s Principal Artists, taking experience gained “on the job” into their own emerging careers and into their musical communities.
2022 Apprentice Projects:
  • February Apprentice Intensive Week, including daily rehearsals, early score reading, masterclasses with Francis Greep, Amy Moore, Donna Balsom and Tahu Mattheson
  • Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem rehearsal week with The Song Company artists and performance at City Recital Hall
  • Tremors of Earth intensive rehearsal week focusing on learning Brumel’s “Earthquake Mass” from original notation and works by Alice Chance and Antony Pitts, followed by performances in Wollongong, Newcastle, St Andrew’s Cathedral Sydney and The Neilson at Pier 2/3 Walsh Bay as part of the ACO’s opening festival.

The Song Company Ensemble Artist program is offers professional development for early-career artists of exceptional potential.  In its third year, Ensemble Artists are contracted for several months to develop their craft in dedicated projects and in collaboration with the company’s Principal Artists.
The Ensemble Artists perform traditional and contemporary repertoire in innovative ways, opening the ears and capturing the imagination of new and existing audiences. A network of mutually beneficial partnerships will build touring opportunities to regional centres and support program elements such as co-presented performances, vocal development workshops, residencies and more.
