As the times become more uncertain, Australia's national vocal ensemble sings with more certainty than ever – from and into the heart! With COVID continuing to have an impact on our lives in different ways, but particularly affecting gathering together in one place, and moving inter-state, we have created a 2021 season that is as nimble and transformative in a positive way as the virus is negatively.

INTO THE HEART – our 2021 Season

SALON: The rich treasures of English Renaissance partbooks featuring golden polyphony by Thomas Tallis, Robert Parsons, Robert White, and William Byrd. The Song Company returns to the Crypt of St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, and to the source of so much golden Renaissance polyphony, for a single performance direct from the manuscript partbook facsimiles of music by Thomas Tallis, Robert Parsons, Robert White, and William Byrd.

BYRD UNDERGROUND

MAINSTAGE & IN CAMERA: Transience and homelessness in the world première of a new 32-part setting of Gavin Bryars' classic Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet and a remake of a legendary canon from the Eton Choirbook.

BURDEN OF TRUTH

MAINSTAGE: Buxtehude’s monumental meditation on suffering and the human body set with contemporary Indigenous dance, and a major new Australian work from Chris Williams. The Song Company and choreographer-dancer Thomas E.S. Williams’s flotilla of seven short fragments and one extended final movement is interspersed with Buxtehude’s intimate 17th-century cycle of seven cantatas on the physical and spiritual aspects of the Crucifixion. Co-curated/directed by Robert Macfarlane, with choreography and dance by Thomas E.S. Kelly, against the background of an ongoing refugee crisis at home and abroad.
