Andrew O’Connor was born in Perth, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Australia, before developing a successful teaching career in Perth, and performing both around Australia and internationally in opera, oratorio, art song, and consort singing. He relocated to Sydney in 2015 and became the newest full-time singer in The Song Company. Andrew also appears regularly with Sydney’s leading early and contemporary music ensembles including Opera Australia, Pinchgut Opera, Bach Akademie Australia, Cantillation, St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, Choir of St James, Sydney Antiphony, and Hourglass Ensemble.

Anna Fraser has gained an enviable reputation as a versatile soprano specialising in the interpretation of early and contemporary repertoire, and sang as a permanent member of The Song Company from 2007-2019. She also performs extensively with Sydney’s professional ensembles, most recently with Sydney Chamber Opera at the 2017 Sydney Festival, Pinchgut Opera with notable roles in L’Orfeo, Dardanus, L’Ormindo, and Castor et Pollux, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Synergy Percussion, Ensemble Offspring, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Cantillation, Ironwood, Halcyon, Salut! Baroque, and Sydney Consort.

Antony Pitts is a composer, conductor, producer, and recipient of the Radio Academy BT Award, the Prix Italia, and a Cannes Classical Award. A Chapel Royal treble, Academic and Honorary Senior Scholar at New College, Oxford, founder of British ensemble TONUS PEREGRINUS, Senior Lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music, and Senior Producer at BBC Radio 3, he made his Glastonbury Festival debut in 2014, and in 2016 joined The Song Company – succeeding Roland Peelman as the first new Artistic Director for a quarter of a century. Commissioned for Alexander Litvinenko, Cheltenham Festival, King’s College London, New College Oxford, Rundfunkchor Berlin, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, The Swingles, and Westminster Cathedral, with premières of his music in Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal, and Sydney Opera House, critical acclaim for Antony’s music tends towards hyperbole: “...My first impulse on hearing this disc was to commend it unreservedly to each and every man, woman, and child on the planet...”.

Chloe Lankshear is a Canberran Soprano who is currently finishing her Bachelor of Music Performance specialising in Classical Voice at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2016, Chloe was selected as a young artist of the Canberra International Music Festival as part of Luminescence Chamber Singers. Since then, Chloe has been performing with The Song Company in various projects including the world premiere of Alice Chance’s song cycle, Fiat Lux, and the Australian premier of Brett Dean’s opera Hamlet at the Adelaide Festival with the State Opera of South Australia. Chloe also regularly performs with Luminescence Chamber Singers and St James’ Choir, King Street. As well as performing, she has directed vocal health and choral workshops and conducted choirs in both Canberra and Sydney. Chloe is currently working towards specialising in Chamber Music and Contemporary Opera.

David is equally happy singing in the opera house or on the concert platform; on an airfield or in a subterranean cellar; in a circus tent or in the pub. David performs regularly with Opera Australia Chorus. Recent highlights include Barry Kosky’s vivacious production of The Nose by Shostakovic and OA’s first ‘digital’ production, Aida. David has a long and fruitful relationship with Pinchgut Opera, appearing in various roles as soloist and ensemble member since 2012, most notably the titular role in Salieri’s delightful singspiel The Chimneysweep (2014) and in the ensemble for sumptuous Handel oratorio Theodora (2016). David is passionate about new operatic works and taking established works to new audiences and new places. He has been involved in the development and premiere of many new Australian works, including George Palmer’s Cloudstreet (workshop performance), Daniel Manera’s operetta X meets Y and Berio’s Laborintus II with Mike Patton for The Song Company (Sydney Festival). More recently David workshopped Ian Whitney’s chamber opera David Davis, which he is looking forward to bringing to the stage early next year. David spent 2011-2016 taking Baroque opera around primary schools in NSW and beyond with the Musica Viva in Schools programme. In 2015 he toured the country as GUGLIEMO in Cosi fan Tutte (Co-Opera). On the concert platform David has sung with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy, with Bryn Terfel and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and with the Sydney University Graduate Choir, Canberra Symphony, Penrith Symphony, Willoughby Symphony, and the Australia Ensemble.

Ethan Taylor has been singing since he could talk. He has been singing with St Mary’s Cathedral Choir since he began a choral scholarship as a boy treble and is currently employed full time as a tenor. Since graduating from AIM with a BMus (Music Theatre) he has been singing freelance with several companies including St James’ King Street, Cantillation, Pinchgut Opera, and The Song Company. He is also heavily involved in stage performing, having performed in, played for, or been a part of over 20 musical, theatre, and opera productions over the last 6 years. Ethan first sang on stage with The Song Company in Power Chords Attached in 2019 and appears as “Dr” Phil T. Reezon in Mind Over Matter.

Francis Greep has gained an international reputation for his work as a vocal coach, recitalist, chorus master, continuo player and conductor. Now based in Australia, he has worked for Opera Australia as part of the Music Staff and as Assistant Chorus Master; and West Australian Opera and Houston Grand Opera, both as Head of Music, and has performed across Europe, North and South America, New Zealand and Australia. Francis has prepared singers and choruses in more than 60 operas and extensive experience of Art Song across all languages. Francis is particularly known for his skill in preparing established and developing singers for professional role debuts through his extensive repertoire experience, and for providing singers with the tools to continue developing and refining their voices. Concurrently, Francis is Marketing and Development Manager at the world-renowned Gondwana Choirs, and is thrilled to be associated with The Song Company, their exciting artistic program and the incredible vocal prowess that on display at every performance.

Hannah Fraser graduated from The Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music (Performance). Hannah has performed alongside professional ensembles including Pinchgut Opera & Cantillation in Iphigénie en Tauride, Ironwood in Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and the New Zealand String Quartet performing pieces by Brahms & Bach at the Adam Chamber Music Festival New Zealand. Since 2013 Hannah has been involved in establishing and developing ‘Voci Stupende’, an organisation which supports young opera singers through providing operatic performance opportunities around Australia. In 2017 Hannah took to the stage in Europe, and has returned to work with The Song Company in 2017 and 2018.

Janine Harris has been an avid lover and singer of choral music since the age of 8. She presently divides her time between Sydney and London, where as a freelance mezzo soprano she has sung regularly with numerous choirs including St Margaret’s Westminster and Marylebone Parish Church. In Australia she has performed as a soloist with the Choir of Christ Church St Laurence and the Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble. Janine has also performed with the Australian Brandenburg Choir, the choirs of St James’ King Street, and St Mary’s and St Andrew’s Cathedrals in Sydney, and in 2009 was a choral scholar at Trinity College, Melbourne. Janine initially studied viola, then pursued a career in arts management, working in administration for the Sydney Symphony and the Australian World Orchestra, but returned to singing full time and graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium in June 2016. In her spare time she is the CEO and founder of goodevening.com.au – a classical concert listings website. Janine first sang on stage with The Song Company in Treble Helix Unlocked in 2019.

A graduate of both the Amsterdam Conservatorium and The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, Koen van Stade is an international performing scholar. He sang regularly with such prestigious Early Music ensembles as Collegium Vocale Gent (Philippe Herreweghe), The Amsterdam Baroque Choir (Ton Koopman) and the Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam. Koen is a singing teacher at the Historical Performance Faculty of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He is also a PhD candidate at The University of Sydney, focusing on 19th century vocal performance practice. This year he received the Peter Davidson Scholarship for outstanding research. Koen van Stade has worked with The Song Company over a number of years, including on the music of Hildegard of Bingen, and more recently in Power Chords Attached.

Lincoln Law is a Vocalization Scholar with The Song Company and first sang in a series of SongCo LAB METRO workshops on original notation from the Eton Choirbook in 2018. Lincoln’s passion for singing has been developed over the years, singing with the Choir Of St James’ King Street, and more recently, Christ Church St Laurence. He sang with St James’ at the Dawn Service in Gallipoli in both 2017 and 2019, and has also sung with St Andrew’s, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and Cantillation (at Sydney Opera House). An avid traveller and food-lover, he supplements his work as a health care professional with artistic pursuits, including wheel-thrown pottery.

An exceptionally versatile vocalist, Mark Donnelly joined The Song Company in 1997 and since that time has performed music spanning eleven centuries for national and international audiences. Mark has sung with many organisations including Pinchgut Opera, Opera Queensland, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Cantillation, Halcyon, Australian String Quartet, Ironwood, Sydney Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Thoroughbass, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, Sydney Chamber Choir, Sydney University Musical Society, and the Newcastle University Choir.

Philippa is a singer and actor. She graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in 2013 and was selected as a Young Artist finalist for The Song Company in the same year. In 2018, Philippa joined The Song Company for several tours and concerts, including True-Love-Story, Four-Colour-Season with Karul Projects, and One-Equal-Music. She also performed with The Song Company and Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Blue Planet II hosted by Joanna Lumley earlier this year. In May this year, Philippa performed the role of Jessica in The Merchant of Venice with Sport for Jove at the Seymour Centre, and recently adjudicated regional heats for The Shakespeare Carnival. Philippa was a core member of the Choir of St James’ during 2015-2018. Performance highlights include Handel’s Messiah (2018) and Bach’s St John Passion (2017) at The City Recital Hall, and highly acclaimed performances at the Coriole Chamber Music Festival in McLaren Vale, SA. Philippa toured internationally with St James’ to Europe/UK (2016) and performed in ANZAC Dawn Services in Gallipoli (2017, 2018). In 2017, Philippa travelled to Osnabruck, Germany, where she was selected to partake in an Early Music masterclass with soprano Dame Emma Kirkby. Philippa also composes, arranges and records music for contemporary theatre. In 2016, Philippa co-developed and performed in Bicycle, a new play by Danielle Baynes (Lies, Lies and Propaganda), which toured sold-out seasons at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Old Fitz Theatre. Philippa has featured as a recording artist for Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Antiphony, The Sonnet Project, Thread Entertainment, Sport for Jove and NIDA. Other performance credits include concerts with Sydney Voices and Opera by Candlelight (Sydney & Canberra), Summerland for Small and Loud (Bondi Feast); A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, The Tempest (Sport for Jove).

Richard Black began his vocal studies while a science student at Adelaide University, later becoming a member of the Adelaide Chamber Singers under Carl Crossin OAM. Since moving to Sydney in 1994 to join The Song Company, Richard has been a member of the choir of St James’ Church, King Street and a founding member of both ACO Voices and Cantillation. He has performed with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Salut! Baroque, Pinchgut Opera, and The Sydney Consort. He has also formed, directed and sung in two vocal ensembles: Renaissance Men and Chroma. Richard retired from The Song Company at the end of 2017.

Roberta Diamond, currently studying at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis in Switzerland, specialises in the interpretation of medieval, renaissance and baroque music. She has performed with at the London Handel Festival, Laus Polyphoniae Antwerpen, the Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival and the International Festival of Baroque Music in Bolivia. Roberta is a 2018-19 scholar with Voces8 and performs regularly with Dowland Works, Emma Kirkby’s ensemble for lutes and voices, and the mixed consort Lux Musicae London. She also enjoys collaborating with folk musicians from all over the world in cross-cultural projects and especially enjoys singing in Arabic and Spanish, which she studied at university. She sang in Pinchgut Opera’s 2019 production of Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria and upcoming appearances include L’Orfeo with Elam Rotem/Profeti della Quinta. Roberta first sang on stage with The Song Company in True-Love-Story in 2018.

Susannah Lawergren holds an Advanced Diploma of Opera from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and a BA (Politics and International Relations) with Distinction from the University of NSW. After performing a season with Opera Australia’s NSW Schools Company, coming second in the National Aria Award in Canberra and competing as a finalist for the Opera Foundation’s German Award, she joined The Song Company in 2011. She has sung with Cantillation, Opera Australia, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, St James Church, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, National Capital Orchestra, and Sydney and Melbourne Symphonies.
